Christel House Serbia - Scholars Program

"The Christel House program has sent hope all around Kragujevac, one of the poorest cities in the country."

- HRH Crown Princess Katherine, Serbia and Montenegro (shown above with her husband, HRH Crown Prince Alexander)

The Christel House Scholars Program provides after-school tutoring in the core curriculum areas of reading, writing and math for refugee children in Serbia. Christel House Europe raises funds and oversees the Scholars Program. Begun in 2003, it now serves over 200 kindergarten through 8th grade students annually. In addition to receiving remedial help, children participate in special workshops to learn computer skills, folk dancing, drama and sports. These children live with their families at the collective centers for displaced individuals, attend public school during the day and receive one free meal daily from the International Red Cross. With their basic needs of food and shelter met, students receiving Christel House services will be better equipped to enter the work force.
